RACHANA “The Little Peak"

Welcome to the official website of the village of Rachana situated in the Northern Region of Batroun - Lebanon. This online platform is an opportunity to introduce our village, share our events, projects and stories, and interact with art lovers & friends of our village.

Name

The name Rachana derives originally from the Syriac words "Rich - ona", which means "the head" or "the hill". However, scholars suggest that the name dates back to Phoenician times and means “the village of the nobles or the rich"

Art

Rachana is well known for being an open air museum for the sculptures of the Basbous Brothers - Michel, Alfred & Youssef. This aspect gives the village an educational and cultural identity. The village was named as "The World's Capital for Open Air Sculpting" by the UNESCO in 1994.
